May 21, 2023 · Commenting again to confirm the rings were changed in MY17 (actually probably halfway through MY16) from a 2-piece to a 3-piece design which seems to have alleviated the issue. The Volvo TJ31216 only mentions 15-16 and only up to construction date of April 2016.

Jun 15, 2022 · The 2012 S60 has the same problem. It's not just the 2013 up. I've had major oil consumption issues but I do my own maintenance and I don't take it to a dealer. I don't feel like being reamed by a dealer and have to driver 50+ miles just to have a Volvo dealer do maintenance. Volvo probably won't help in my case.

It feels like Volvo's hybrid engine is barely as efficient as the above non-hybrid versions. In addition, the Volvo requires premium fuel. Overall, doesn't lead to much in terms of cost savings.
