Tropical depression could form in Gulf this weekend as Hurricane Kirk strengthens in Atlantic
Kirk — the eleventh named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season — is moving northwest at 14 mph with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, forecasters said. The hurricane is expected to rapidly intensify over the week before fully dissipating by overnight Monday, the NHC said.
Kirk is packing peak winds of 80 miles per hour as it moves northwest, nearly 1,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.
