More than 3 million homes and businesses were without power early on Thursday as Hurricane Milton exited Florida as a category 1 storm after after spawning multiple tornadoes and major flooding as it moved through the state overnight.

It made landfall along the state’s west-central coast as a Category 3 storm on Wednesday night. Its destruction will come into clearer view as daylight emerges, but the severity of the impact was already evident in many pockets.

Hurricane Milton carved a path of destruction across Florida, spawning tornadoes that killed four in Fort Pierce and destroyed homes in Wellington. Tens of thousands of people across Palm Beach County awoke without power Thursday as first responders work to assess and repair the damage.
