Fernanda Torres, who is nominated for the best actress Oscar this year, has apologised for wearing blackface in a resurfaced sketch. The actor, 59, is among the stars up for the prestigious award for her performance in Brazillian drama I’m Still Here.

According to Torres, the party had “the highest concentration of amazing actors I had seen in my life.” As she shyly made her way through the A-listers like a “fish out of water,” Gascón swooped in and took her under her wing.

Torres is only the second Brazilian actress to receive an Oscar nomination. The first was her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, who was nominated in 1999 for Central Station, also directed by Salles.
