Mex, which was founded in Austin in 1977, has closed its final location, though the company teased that it's not the end of the restaurant.

The restaurant, which started in 1977, wrote in an Instagram post that it was "saying goodbye" to the location on Burnet Road.

The business announced the closure on social media Jan. 13. Trudy's South Star, off Little Texas Lane, closed in May 2024. The restaurant, which opened in 1977, filed for bankruptcy in 2020 and was purchased by a private equity firm that same year.

Previously known as Trudy’s North Star when the company had other locations, the 11,000-square-foot eatery that opened in 1988 had been renamed Trudy’s Lone Star because it was the only one left.
