South African gospel musician Solly Moholo has sadly passed away after battling an illness. The singer was hospitalised in August while on tour in Botswana.

Veteran South African gospel artist Solomon Molokoane, popularly known as Solly Moholo, has died at the age of 65, his management has announced. The award-winning music icon had been in hospital for several weeks after falling ill while on a music tour in Botswana last month.

After a performance, he fell ill at his residence and was rushed to hospital. In a September update, Moholo's team revealed that he had suffered a stroke and was experiencing multiple organ failure. The family urgently sought public financial support to cover medical costs of R700 000.

“Solly Moholo was hospitalised after falling following his pre-album launch tour in Botswana. He will be sorely missed. May his laughter continue to echo off the walls of heaven. Let us remember him fondly for the healing music he gave us over the years," he statement read.
