The Montreal Canadiens scored goals barely two minutes apart on their first two shots against Sabres backup goaltender Devon Levi in the third period, and the last-place team in the Eastern Conference halted Buffalo’s win streak with a 7-5 victory Monday in front of a split crowd at KeyBank Center.

Sabres coach Lindy Ruff did not have an update on his condition following the game. “He’s a huge piece on our team and we need him out there,” Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin said. Thompson has 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points this season.

Not only did the Sabres lose to the Canadiens, but they also lost top-scoring forward Tage Thompson to injury.
