Thousands of extra police officers are being deployed in and around Paris for a France-Israel football match on Thursday which comes a week after violence exploded on the streets of Amsterdam. Security at the Stade de France and surrounding transport networks will be reinforced, with 4,000 police officers deployed, compared to the usual 1,200-1,300 for a sold-out match. Protests are planned outside the stadium, particularly in Saint-Denis, where demonstrators will voice opposition to the event.

Israel has urged fans to avoid Thursday's France-Israel football tie, which authorities fear could become a flashpoint following violence in Amsterdam following a match involving an Israeli team.
